Goals and philosophy in education

Language Fundamentals:

  1. Common Courses of Foreign Languages:
    Foreign Language Center arranges a variety of courses based on students’ English proficiency from fundamental ones to advanced ones. Meanwhile, International College utilizes the resources at hand and hires international students to facilitate intercultural exchange with local students, through which students can learn to understand and respect different cultures and then grow to be a well-rounded individual. In addition, International College also holds several language contests open to international and local students to trigger their interests in language learning, hoping to create a phenomenon of cultural exchange. To create the actual context of different cultures, International College arranges the occasions for local students to receive the people from partner schools, expecting that the local students can more confidently practice different languages through the interactions and creates an internationalized school where both international and local students can mutually learn and practice languages from each other.
     
  2. Courses of Professional English and International Negotiation
    What international talents contain should be not only the communicative proficiency in languages, but also the awareness of professional English and international negotiation skills. Along with the collaboration with Foreign Language & Literature Department and Foreign Language Center, International College provides the students and the faculty with professional English courses that teach necessary skills for international occasions. In addition, International College organizes seminars conducted in English for teachers, in which, therefore, is expected to raise their English proficiency in lecturing as well as their global mobility regarding to international academic exchanges. These efforts that have been made are aimed at making Providence University a recognizable school around the world.
     
  3. Organizing Tests for Certificate of Mainstream Languages
    Providence University is a certified test center authorized by test sponsors. Tests offered are English, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and other mainstream languages. In the present, tests that are regularly offered are TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, English and Spanish BULATS, GEPT, and other Japanese tests. In addition, to better prepare students for the tests, International College also arranges courses along with mock tests for certain certificates. This is expected to urge students and faculty members on approaching to the world and becoming worldly competitive.

Professional Guidance
  1. Establishment of Degree-based International Programs
    In coordination with Ministry of Education in terms of going internationalization, International College practices academic exchanges across countries and expands English teaching resources to offer the students chances to receive international education so that it can fully achieve internationalization. Moreover, International College also recruits international students and utilizes the resources at hand to seek for partnerships with overseas universities. This will create a share zone for both of Providence University and its partner schools as an access to future academic cooperation, such as dual degree programs.
     
  2. Supports to Other Departments of the School for Certification of International Courses:
    To ride on track with global trend, International College employs its resources to support different courses arranged by departments not only to strengthen students’ international competences and global mobility but also to assist different departments to be internationally certified for potential collaboration with international institutions on dual degree programs. Finally, these supports are expected to lead International Colleges to thrive in the international academic world.
     
  3. Promotion of Dual Degree across Countries:
    Bolstering international education has been a trend in recent years. To help students acquire global view, world knowledge, and competence for international career, and to further increase overall competitiveness of Taiwan among countries, International College starts from promoting dual degree program with partner schools, to meeting the requirements of international certification, and to organizing overseas internships and shared instructions for exchange and graduate students. This program is not just to increase the willingness of international collaboration, but also to broaden students’ global mind.
 
Global Mobility:
  1. Courses for Intercultural Communicative Competence Training:
    International Colleges provides the students and the faculty with a platform where they are exposed to a multicultural context that is rich in resources of language learning and is not limited by time and distance. In such an environment, they are expected to develop their basic conversational proficiency in English so that they can be more capable of helping foreign students. These resources are offered mostly as courses and activities organized by International College, such as English contest and courses for language tests for certificates, academic research, and daily life English, career English, online education, and professional English. These courses are dedicated to satisfying the needs of students and instructors for learning, teaching, academic research, and career pursuit purposes. Meanwhile, to make learning English a permanent goal and to make Providence University an internationalized school, International College also helps the school develop bilingual documentary system and facilities.
  2. Internships at Multinational Companies and International Volunteer Program:
    International College works with office of Service-learning at Providence University to promote international volunteer programs to raise the awareness of the students and the faculty of Providence University about and international affairs and to take them seriously as a world citizen, to apply what they have learned from the school to specific areas, and to enhance the level of contextual cultural comprehension. 
     
  3. To Build Multinational Industry-University Cooperation Networks:       
    To fully facilitate internationalized education and development of individual international competence, International College seeks for opportunities to build multinational industry-university cooperation networks by a few means, such as encouraging the faculty of the school to practice academic exchange overseas and offering professional training and internship programs, and helps each division of the school develop and expand their capstone courses to the globe.
